Holly discovered the joy of balloons! Grandma Owens had about 600 in her house. I learned the joy of blowing up lots of balloons and trying to keep my darling daughter from eating them after they popped.
We took a ride of the Alpine Loop during the peak of the fall leaf foliage. Who needs New England when you have the Alpine Loop? We stopped at Mutual Dell to let the kids (Owen, Holly, and their cousin Jacob) play on the swing set and play in the river.
The kids had lots of fun throwing rock in the river...
And eating the rocks when they got a bit hungry.
Owen and Holly definitely loved all the trampolines in Utah. My mom, and my two brothers with houses in Utah all had trampolines. I loved what they did to Holly's hair! She needed a new hair-do. 
We had some not so fun times in Utah/Arizona too. Holly looked like this a lot. She has a good excuse though. She had an ear infection, and she finally got her first tooth. Owen got the flu when he was in Arizona...Holly may have picked the flu up too, but we didn't have her checked out. She was burning up with a fever on the day we flew home, so I was guessing it was flu related. 
But even an ear infection and teeth popping out of our gums could keep us down for too long.
We went to a park in Phoenix. Notice my nice BIG glasses. I believe I left my contacts in for one day too many. The cornea on my left eye got scratched. Light was extremely irritating to it. Hence, the huge glasses. I kind of like them though. Too bad I had to give them back to my mom.
Back to the park...we took up all the swings. In order from left to right we have Simon (Khyl's youngest son), Owen, my dad and Holly and Julie (Khyl's daughter).
We also feed the ducks at the park. We were very impressed with the ducks in Phoenix, they actually ate the bread we threw to them...some of them even got a bit aggressive. The ducks at our local park in Massachusetts just look at us like we are nuts when we throw bread to them. My cousin told me that the ducks in Phoenix eat the bread because "those ducks live in the hood and have to fight the bums for food." Nicely put.
We also took a long drive to the top of South Mountain in Phoenix. If you want a good place to see all of Phoenix, South Mountain is a good place to start. Just don't put a 10 year old boy who has the flu in the back of your van. The road is very windy to the top, and he will get very sick.

We did have some relaxing moments of cuddling in the backyard.
While Owen and I sat on the grass, Holly practiced climbing up the slide. She was pretty good at it. 
She's getting higher....
And higher!
Once she got to the top she turned around, sat down, and slide to the bottom. The process would start all over again. Sometimes she brought some of her older cousins back down with her.
We did some shopping. Owen stole Holly's seat. Holly was not too happy about shopping though. So she didn't mind Owen stealing her seat because that meant I had to hold her. Shopping with 5 kids 10 and under is not a great idea.
Holly turned 1 year old while we were in Utah! So we had a little party for her on the day before we had to go home. She got to open her very first birthday present. She did remarkably well, better than Owen did on his first birthday.
It was a fun little party with cousins...
...and aunts, uncles and grandparents. She had a german chocolate cake, and her first candle was a tea light candles. So...there you have it, our Utah/Arizona trip in a nutshell!
