KISS

Owen is such a sweet older brother...for now. He saw me kissing Holly in her swing yesterday and decided he wanted to give her a kiss too.

Then...even though her swing works quite well on batteries...he decided he wanted to swing her. Why weren't my brothers ever this nice to me?

BLACK FRIDAY UPDATE...I went shopping, but not until 7:30. I guess you have to be there at 5:00 AM to get the really great deals because I didn't see any. The crowds weren't too bad at 7:30 either. But my sister-in-law and I had a good time getting out and seeing all the Holiday shoppers.

More Thanksgiving Pictures

Thanksgiving is almost over...time for Christmas! Here is a few more pictures we got...I guess the 10 second delay was about the same as having Scott take the pictures...

Holly looks like she has a little smile on her face in the picture!

The food was pretty good...but don't ask Owen. All he would eat was the cranberry sauce! He is such a picky eater.

After dinner we drove out to see Bright Nights. That is the local park with the Christmas light display you can drive through and look at....after you pay a fortune to get in of course. Owen seemed to like it. Holly might have too...when we got home she was sitting in her car seat smiling away. Of course as soon as I got the camera the smiling stopped.

So Thanksgiving 2008 is in the past...almost. Now on to my favorite time of year, the Christmas season! As for the straight hair....it's very rare that I will straighten my hair. It takes too much time. But I will be heading out bright and early for my first Black Friday shopping trip tomorrow! Usually I have to work, but not this year...so I'm going to see what all the hoopla is about. We are leaving bright and early, so I don't want to fuss with my hair...that's why it's straight!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I'm sure you all have much to be thankful for this year. I do too. This year I'm especially thankful to be the mother of two healthy and beautiful children. Children are the greatest blessing I could ever think of receiving...even if they do drive me nuts sometimes. I'm also very grateful that they are both sleeping right now! It's a lot easier to peel potatoes when you don't have a 2 year old trying desperately to get your attention!

We are having a small Thanksgiving feast this year. It will just be Scott, the kids, me and Scott's mother for dinner. I'm making all the food, so the food won't be anything to sing about, but I never get too excited over turkey and stuffing anyways.

I tried to take some nice pictures this morning. They didn't turn out too well though....

Holly looks pretty cute here...at least I think so.

A 10 second delay on the camera is not long enough when you are trying to get two kids to look happy on your lap! Where is Scott when you need him? We'll have to try this one again.

I did get Owen to hold Holly, but he kept making silly faces and Holly wasn't too happy about being held by Owen. Plus Owen's face is dirty...it's always dirty! Right after I get him out of the bath tub it's dirty...WHY?

I guess I will have to try to take some better pictures later. Right now I hear Holly calling for me. Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I hope you all enjoy your turkey!

9 Hours

Holly continues to be a great baby. Last night I put her down to sleep at 8:30. I didn't hear a peep from her until 5:30 this morning. That means I got 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep..YAY for Holly! She has been sleeping for about 7 hours straight, but 9 is 2 hours better. Thank goodness for swaddling blankets, I think they help the sleeping process tremendously!

Smile!

Yesterday I had my 6 week postpartum doctor's appointment. It wasn't really something I was looking forward to. Does anybody really look forward to sitting in the OB/GYN's office? Not me. But something wonderful happened while I was sitting there waiting for the doctor. Holly looked at me, I smiled at her, and she smiled back! Not just a little smile either...it was a huge smile! Now she will always know that her first real smile was in the OB/GYN's office! Of course I've been trying to get another smile out of her since then, but these pictures show all I've been able to get. Oh well, soon enough she'll be smiling away for us!

Picture Day

Today was picture day, and oh what an adventure we had! I was really worried about Owen not cooperating, and all my worries came true! It was my plan to have them take 2 pictures of Owen, 2 of Holly and 2 of them together. That didn't happen. We decided to try both of them together first. Owen was sitting with his legs apart and we put Holly in between for him to hold. That's when Owen would bolt. No matter what we did he would not sit there. So we decided to get a picture of Holly and maybe Owen would see what was happening and sit down. They took the picture above of Holly. Then we decided to get a picture of Owen. He kept sticking his fingers in his mouth, then trying to run away every time we sat him in the chair. Finally we got a few good ones of him...the one below is the only one we kept. It looks blurry because I got it off Kiddie Kandid's website and I had to zoom in a lot to get it to where I wanted it. When I order the pictures it shouldn't be so blurry.

After that we decided to let Owen run around the store a little bit to see if he could get some of the curiosity burned out of him. I changed Holly into her blessing dress so we could get a few pictures of her in it. She did really well getting her picture taken!

There was another family after us waiting to have their baby's picture taken. So we decided to let them go and see if Owen would sit down with Holly after that. Pretty soon Owen came back with one of those popcorn popping toys that you push around. He had no interest in getting any more pictures taken, and by then Holly was getting really fussy. So we gave up. I guess there will be no pictures of both Owen and Holly taken this year, the grandparents will just have to deal with two pictures instead of one. We'll try again next year.

The Movie

I was pleasantly surprised! I was a little nervous about going to see this movie. Usually books made into movies disappoint me...a lot. But this one was fun. It followed the book very closely, and it was fun to see the book come to life. I don't think it is the best movie I have ever seen, but it also wasn't the best book I have ever read. I think as long as you aren't a movie snob and don't take the movie too seriously you will probably be entertained by this movie!

The teenage girls who were there to see the movie were pretty entertaining too. I got there early to wait in line for a good seat...there is nothing worse than sitting in the front row! While waiting in line I was listening to the group of girls behind me.

"I told my boyfriend to read these books...I told him it was The Man Bible!"

"Yeah, Edward didn't even let Bella have sex with him for a long time!"

"That's because the author didn't want all these preteen girls going out and having sex just because Bella was, she wants them to wait until they are married."

And the conversation went on and on like that. I was quite entertained by them. Then there was the teenage girl sitting next to me in the theater who kept quietly squealing or tapping her feet very quickly whenever she got excited. It was pretty funny.

On another note...everybody survived here at home! I don't know why but I thought for sure the house would fall apart without me here. But it didn't...YAY! I put Holly down to sleep right before I left at 8:30, and she was still asleep when I got home at 12:20. She was just starting to wake up when I got home...so it was perfect timing!

Movie Night

I'm going to see "Twilight" tonight. This is a pretty big deal since I haven't been to see a movie since June. It's also the opening night. I think I will be sharing the theater with hundreds of crazy teenage girls. Maybe I'm crazy for going. I guess I will find out tonight! I'm definitely getting popcorn though...I love theater popcorn! Now let's just hope Scott can handle two kids for about 4 hours. Hopefully they will both be sleeping the whole time, or at least Holly.

Video Tag

In this tag you have to name the top 10 DVD's played in you home.

This would be a lot easier if I had to name the top 10 shows played on my DVR. We hardly ever use our DVD player since our DVR is usually full of TV shows to watch. My list will also have to include the VRC as well as the DVD...we haven't switched completly over.

1. Scrooge with Albert Finney would have to be #1...it's the only one we watch at least once a year at Christmas time. It is also Scott's favorite musical.

2. Newsies My favorite movie!

3. Phantom of the Opera I saw this 5 times in the theater...I LOVE this movie!

4. Wonderfalls I love TV shows more than movies. I was so sad when Wonderfalls went off the air after showing only a few of its episodes. But lucky for all us fans they put the all the episodes that had been completed onto DVD.

5. Napoleon Dynamite I think if you are a Mormon you are required to own this movie and to love it!

6. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory A Classic

7. It's a Wonderful Life Another one we watch at Christmas time...but not every year.

8. The Princess Bride It's also a great book...have you read it?

9. The Twilight Zone We own every single episode...only because it's my husband's favorite show though.

10. Ghost I'm running out of DVDs and ideas.

The Face of a Criminal

You're looking at the face of the newest criminal in America! Possibly the youngest too. Today was our weekly shopping trip. This was the first time I attempted to go shopping with both Owen and Holly. Owen had to find a new place to sit though since Holly's car seat goes in the space where Owen use to sit. Thankfully that have those dandy little shopping carts with the toy cars stuck in the front of them...problem solved! Owen loves cars and he thought he was so cool sitting in the little plastic car and beeping the horn.

The shopping trip went well...we got all our food and got all checked out with no problems. Then we got to the car. That's when I noticed the candy bar in Owen's mouth...it was still in the wrapper, he hadn't figured out how to open it, but it was pretty much chewed up. He must have grabbed it at the check out lane. That little car is right on level with all the candy bars they have there! I thought about taking him up to the store manager and making Owen tell him that he had stolen the candy bar, but I didn't think that would work too well with a 23 month old. It did work well with me when I tried to steal a peanut from Albertsons, but I was a bit older then Owen is now. I thought I was going to be thrown in jail when my mother made me tell somebody about the stolen peanut. I never stole another thing again! But I think Owen doesn't quite grasp the whole money thing just yet. So I just hurried back into the store and paid for it at one of the self check out counters. Of course he picked the candy bar that cost $1.00 too. Since when did candy bars cost a dollar? Crazy! From now on I will be watching him a lot more closely around those candy bars though. I don't need a hardened criminal living in my house!

Thankfully Holly hasn't started a life of crime yet. Here she is with her favorite little teddy bear from her Uncle John.

One Month Stats

We just got back from the doctor, and Holly is doing great! She weighed in at 9 lbs 6 oz which is the 54th percentile. She still has 15 ounces to go to catch up to my BIRTH weight though! She grew 2 inches in the last 3 weeks, so now she is 21 1/4 inches, which is the 56th percentile. Her head grew too, I can't remember the exact number but it was in the 67th percentile. Big heads run in the family, so I guess she was destined to get one too!

Holly had a couple of "first" yesterday and today. Yesterday Holly went to her first wedding party! The groom was the son of our Relief Society President, and the bride was actually a girl I went to school with from Kindergarten through High School! Our Relief Society President kept telling me about the wonderful girl his son had found to marry, and when our invitation showed up I recognized the bride. I know this is so cliche but, it's a small world! The wedding was a lot of fun. The family of the groom is Polynesian so they had a lot of Polynesian dancing and music. It was very entertaining. I think it might have been a little loud for Holly though because she got pretty fussy during the dancing...so we left a little early. I think overall she enjoyed her first wedding though.

Today at the doctors office she had her first fashion faux paux (I have no idea how to spell that, hopefully you know what I'm saying!) We were sitting in the waiting room and there was another little girl with the same outfit on! I don't think she cared too much though...she just blamed me for the whole mix up. The doctor thought it was great that she had two patients in a row with the same outfit on though.

Now she gets to take her first visit to the dentist...not for her though, for me! One of my fillings broke so I have to have it replaced. I really hate going to the dentist. They always ask you questions when they have lots of equipment in your mouth. Why do they do that? Oh well...wish me luck!

One Month Old

My how time does fly! I can't believe my baby girl is a month old already. But even though time is flying by quickly, it's hard to imagine that Holly has not always being a part of the family. It seems like I've known her forever. It has been a great month though...with lots of sleeping for both of us! The last two nights she actually slept 7 hours straight...Woo Hoo! The first night I didn't get a lot of sleep though. I kept waking up and checking on her because it wasn't normal for her to sleep that long. But last night I knew it was normal so I got a nice long stretch of sleep too.

Today I decided to look back at Owen's pictures to see what he looked like when he was exactly one month old. When I saw the pictures I realized that I knew where the PJ's he was wearing in the picture were, so I decided to put them on Holly and try to restage the photo. People are always asking me if Holly looks like Owen did...so here are the pictures of both of them...in the same clothes...at the same age. I tried to get Holly to put her head in the same position, but she wouldn't.

HOLLY

OWEN

Tomorrow Holly gets to go to the doctor for her one month check up. So we will see how much she weighs tomorrow. I'm guessing around 10 lbs...but I'll let you know for sure tomorrow!

You Be the Judge

My dad asked me to post a picture of Holly and one of me when I was a baby so he could see what resemblance there is, if any. So the top picture is of Holly, and the second one is of me as a baby. I'm not sure how old I was. I definitely had more hair, even though Holly has a pretty good amount herself! I was also a lot more chunky. But I started out life over 3 lbs heavier than Holly did...so it's not a huge surprise that I'm chunkier. Personally, I can see a resemblance, but I think Holly is much cuter!

We've tried to get Holly to use a pacifier, but she usually isn't too interested. She usually just starts gagging on it. But don't worry, the pacifiers we bought aren't going to waste. Owen has decided to take up the binky habit! I don' t know what is worse, a pink binky or the two fingers that are usually in his mouth.

So Owen Thinks He Can Dance?

Watch for Owen on a Reality TV Dancing show in about 15 years! He loves to dance whenever he hears music, as you can see in this short little video I took of him.

Pink Lion

Scott's mom has been saying for a few weeks that she was making a sweater for Holly. She said it was very frilly. Well, she brought it over on Sunday. She failed to mention that there was a bonnet and booties too. But she was right about the frilly part! Scott said that she looks like a pink lion. I think she looks pretty darn silly...but cute! I'm not sure if she likes it too much. She started crying as soon as I put it on her. It took a while to calm her down so I could take a picture where she wasn't crying. It's a nice little set though...something for Holly to keep from her Grandma Sheaffer.

It's a Good Thing I Love Owen...

What a nightmare!

After church Holly and I decided we didn't want to watch the football game, we wanted to take a nap. Scott could watch Owen...so I thought...

I woke up from my nap and Scott said, "You aren't going to be happy about your piano bench...or your piano."

YIKES! Not something you want to hear when you have just woke up. I asked him why not...

"Owen got a hold of a marker"

"What Color?"

"Silver"

After I stopped crying we went on the Internet to look up how to clean marker off a piano. Thank goodness for Google! There were a few ideas...one was to use rubbing alcohol...another was to use an eraser. They both work. We were a bit worried about the rubbing alcohol taking off the finish on the piano bench though, so Scott decided to use the eraser. I think that might leave an eraser finish on it though...Scott is working on it now...

I used the rubbing alcohol to get the marker off the piano keys...they both worked really well, just in case you are ever in the same situation.
Thank goodness I have this cute little angel to keep me sane....at least until she is old enough to get a hold of her own magic markers! Here she is all dressed up for church this morning.

And here she is sleeping through all the drama. What a sweet girl she is!

Just an update....everything is back to normal! I have no idea where Owen found the marker...I thought we had them all hidden away where we couldn't even find them! I guess Owen is trickier than we though!

Fall Fun

We have been having a great streak of nice weather around here lately...it's been wonderful for Owen who loves to be outside! Today Scott was out raking the leaves that have fallen since my mom was here (She raked up all that had fallen by then before she left). My mom tried to get Owen to play in the leaves, but I think he had just woken up from a nap when she tried, so he wasn't too interested. He had a great time playing in the leaves today though. It was really hard to get a good picture of him because he wouldn't sit still long enough to get one! The little boy next door was playing in the leaf pile in his yard. They were having a blast!

I decided to let Holly get in on the leaf action too! Doesn't she look like she's having fun rolling around in the leaves?

After all the fun in the leaves it was bath time. Owen and Holly both got a bath, but not at the same time. Owen splashes too much for Holly's liking. The were both so squeaky clean after that I had to get a picture. I actually got Owen to sit next to Holly...and put his arm around her! Of course he was watching a cartoon at the time, so I don't think he even noticed that she was there...but it's progress! I was thinking of going to get their pictures taken next week, so I'm glad he's cooperating a little bit now.

Hubby Tag

1. Full Name: Scott Anthony Sheaffer

2. How long you have been married? 9 Years as of June 18th.

3. How long did we date? We had a kind of unusual dating situation. We met on June 8th, 1996, in an AOL chat room. From there we became good friends, writing to each other at least once daily. In our attic we have a paper box full of letters and chats that we wrote to each other over a 3 year period. I'm not kidding either, the box is FULL! Scott printed and saved everything we ever wrote to each other, including the first chat we ever had. So that's pretty neat...it will be something for our kids to read when they are really bored one year. We actually met in person for the first time on June 8th, 1997....exactly one year after we met on the computer. I was on my senior trip and Scott drove up to Vermont where we were staying for one night. We got to talk to each other for a few hours. After that Scott flew out to Utah a few times, I flew to Massachusetts once, then Scott flew back to Utah in June 1999 which is when we eloped. That's our story in a quick little nutshell.

4. Who eats the sweets? We both have a sweet tooth. Scott loves Reeses Peanut Butter cups though, and I'm more a fan of cookies and brownies.

5. Who said I love you first? I don't know...probably Scott.

6. Who's taller? Me...by one or two inches.

7. Who sings better? Me for sure, which isn't saying much. Scott just really can't sing...he's BAD!

8. Who is smarter? Book smart...Scott for sure. He is the master of Trivial Pursuit. It's crazy the things he knows...he knows things nobody has a right to know. He reads a lot though...

9. Who does the laundry? Me. I don't like it when Scott touches the clothes! Laundry is my favorite chore though.

10. Who pays the bills? I do. I'm kind of a control freak.

11. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Scott.

12. Who mows the lawn? I let Scott handle that. We got a new lawn mower this year...so he seems to enjoy it more this year too!

14. Who drives? I usually drive...Scott is a bad driver. He's too overly cautious...always slamming on the brakes any time anybody moves an inch around him. It's scary...so I drive.

15. Who admits they are wrong? Usually neither of us...we are a bit hard headed about admitting fault. But usually when somebody does admit they are wrong it is Scott...but that's only because he is usually wrong.

16. Who kissed who first? Scott tried to kiss me first...after I told him not to. So I slammed his head against the car window. Really I don't know why he ever talked to me after his first trip to Utah. I wasn't very nice. Our first real kiss though...I think we both just kissed each other.

17. Who asked out who first? I guess I was the one who invited him up to Vermont...it was my mom's idea.

18. Who wears the pants? Me for sure...and I think that's the way Scott likes it....it means more time relaxing and reading for him. And I have that control freak thing going on...so it works out well for both of us.

19. How much grief did you cause your parents by wanting to get married? More than I can ever apologize for.

Now I get to tag...DeDe, Jocelyn, Kelly, Becky and Claudia

Halloween - Owen's New Favorite Holiday

Owen has a new favorite holiday! OK...I don't know what it was before, but it's Halloween now for sure! It took a little convincing first though. He didn't want to go trick-or-treating, he just wanted to play with his jack-o-lantern...but we made him go and he loved it!

Holly dressed up in her pumpkin outfit, but she didn't go trick-or-treating. Somebody had to pass out the candy! So Holly and dad stayed home at first to pass it out.

Owen was a cute little dinosaur! He got the costume from my friend Claudia in Arizona...her little boy Ceddie wore the same costume last year. He got lots of compliments on it. Thanks Claudia!

Like I said, Owen really loved Trick-or-Treating. He would get really excited going up to people's houses...he would knock on the door until it was finally opened (I tried to stop him, but he knocked so quietly I didn't think the home owners could even hear it) and he always tried to make himself at home. As soon as the door opened he would try to walk into the house! I had to keep a tight hold on him. He got a ton of candy, and he wouldn't let me carry his candy for him. By the end of our trick-or-treating he was pretty much dragging it because it was so heavy! Owen also got a dollar while he was trick-or-treating. We were crossing the street and some random guy stopped his car and called Owen over...strange. I was looking at him and he held up a dollar and said it was for Owen. He said he had two granddaughters trick-or-treating so he wanted to give Owen something. It didn't make much sense to me, but it was a free dollar, so we grabbed it and said thanks!

After I thought Owen had enough candy I took him back home. Scott's mom wanted to take some pictures of Owen, so I sent Scott and Owen over to her apartment to get some pictures. I told Scott to take him trick-or-treating at her apartments too. Apartments are a great way to get a lot of candy fast! So they went, but they came back very quickly, I guess Scott's mom wasn't home. Scott decided to take him trick-or-treating some more around our neighborhood. So off they went.

Holly and I stayed home and waited for some more trick-or-treaters. Actually, Holly just slept. It's what she's best at these days! We don't get too many trick-0r-treaters at our house so I got a lot of reading done. After Scott and Owen were gone for a few hours I started to get worried though, especially when I started hearing tons of sirens. They didn't get home until almost 9:00! Owen's candy bucket was filled to the brim.

Owen probably would have ate all that candy last night if we would have let him, but we just gave him a few pieces. I don't think we'll have to buy him any candy until next Halloween though! I made him eat some vegetable beef baby food (it's the only way I can get meat in the boy) and instead of using the spoon I gave him he used his sucker to scoop it out and it eat! YIKES! I was just happy to get something besides sugar in him though.

Here is our little sticky mess at the end of the day. As you can see Owen had lots of fun. It was the most fun I've had on a Halloween in a long time too!
